The 'JUST' problem...
In Ibiza last week at the Agency Hackers Super Summit (this is my last mention of the work holiday, I promise) I got to have many, many conversations with people I'd never met before. And there's one thing I heard that I'd love to stamp out. People who say:
"We're JUST eight people"
"We're JUST a video production company"
"Our revenue is JUST £400,000"
"I've JUST gone freelance"
JUST is such a shitty word. You are so much more than JUST.
If you've hired even one person that's amazing. I'm not brave enough to hire anyone. If you're doing £350,000 of revenue, there's a very good chance that you're more profitable than those doing double or triple that.
Being in a room full of agencies that look bigger and more successful than you can feel intimidating. But you shouldn't worry, you have every right to be in the room and to be proud.
Cut out the JUST. When you say JUST, it makes it sound like you don't believe in yourself.
If I hear you say the now banned word, I will call you out… in a nice way.
